So far we have used one location to experiment with liveness, immediacy, devising, rapid prototyping and mixed reality in relation to XR storytelling. We have created work from the ground up and crafted new digital tools to help facilitate this.
We aren’t interested in recreating theatre experiences for VR but instead are interested in creating platform native work that draws from theatre, film and gaming. Virtual reality is such a compelling medium to work in at the moment as it uniquely offers this very holistic approach to creating work. We can build extravagant worlds, have real live actors and give our audience agency through game mechanics.
The next stage of the Megaverse XR Theatre Lab is to set up two locations where the actors and the volumetric scanning stage are in one location and the audience are in another location experiencing the work remotely in live time.
